Sickly Sweet Candle Spell

Sickly sweet candle spell,
distressed and full of rage,
drawing us to the gates of Hell,
know we venerate
the cursed Wishing Well,
where Darkness dwells within.

Return. Return.
Lest it rises from its sleep
and by its iron hand
breaks your master's cheek.

Return. Return.
Your master is far too weak.
Know your source cannot find
the suffering that it seeks.

Sickly sweet candle spell,
distressed and full of rage,
we return you to your master's hand,
weak and full of shame.

Pentacles

Element: Earth
Associations: External world. Outer concerns. Money. Finance. Material. Health. Work. Creativity. Ego. Self-Esteem. Self-image. (Biddy Tarot)

Non-Court Card

Intuitive Reading, Eight of Pentacles

Description: A craftsman, artisan, or perhaps laborer sits on a wooden bench, crafting an eighth pentacle. Six pentacles are lined, end-to-end, on a wooden wall. There is a space between the first and second pentacle (toward the bottom of the stack) where, presumably, the pentacle he is crafting will be mounted. A seventh pentacle lays on the ground slightly under and behind him. Perhaps he has set it aside for repairs or to improve. Perhaps he is saving it for another occasion. It is obviously intentionally displaced.

Intuitive Reading: This card feels practical. An individual applying their talent, or perhaps sharpening their skill through practice, in a way that improves their external world. Perhaps it is putting into action the work that will improve themselves or their relationships--they are making the effort to be a better person. Maybe the individual is working towards a goal. Here, they are not rushing in haphazardly. Instead, they take appropriate steps to seize their prize.

This card seems to say, "Do the work the right way to achieve mastery or a goal." Struggling with self-image? Do the work to accept yourself as you are or do the work to improve areas you want improved. Sitting still or rushing in are not going to work here. It takes effort, practice, and action.

Was the Intuitive Reading Aligned with the Traditional

According to the Tarot Guidebook, Based on the tarot interpretations of Arthur Edward WaiteModified, expanded, and edited by Phillip Young, PhD:

Meaning: "Use your skill and experience to improve your financial status and improve your security."

Symbolism: "An artisan perfects his craft making new pentacles of the finest design."

Reflection

Young's interpretation, which is based on Arthur Edward Waite's interpretation, is practical. Do the work, use your talents and skills "to improve your financial status and improve your security." It is straight and to the point. I feel satisfied with my intuitive read.

Am I missing anything? Is there a better way to read the card? What are your thoughts?

Learning Tarot: Knight of Swords

Moon Phase

Waxing Crescent.
28% Illumination.

Swords

Element: Air
Associations: Intellect. Logic. Communication.

Court Card

Knight: Action. Initiative. Pursuit (of Goals?).

Intuitive Reading, Knight of Swords

Description: A valiant armored knight, sword raised to the sky, a look of determination on his face charges forward on a white horse. The horse is driven forward, but its eye looks back at the rider with an almost uncertain expression, still it charges at the knight's command. The knight's helm is topped with a bright red feather, matching both the cloak and tabard the figure wears. The tabard is adorned with a blue bird a shade darker than the adornment of the white horse which depicts yellow butterflies and red birds.

The clouds and trees blur in the background, and the horses mane trails behind it, giving the illusion of a fast-paced full gallop leading forward.

Intuitive Reading: The figure has made a decision, and it seems that there is no turning back. Urgency and swiftness drive the knight forward. The expression on the horse, however, begs the question: "Are you sure?" The horse is willing to follow its rider's command, but suggests that the action might be brash or shortsighted, as if the long term costs and consequences have not been fully considered. Despite doubts, the rider has made a clear and decisive choice that must be seized upon.

Was the Intuitive Reading Aligned with the Traditional

According to the Tarot Guidebook, Based on the tarot interpretations of Arthur Edward WaiteModified, expanded, and edited by Phillip Young, PhD:

Meaning: "Use clear-headed and logical thinking to achieve your goals; be decisive."

Symbolism: "A warrior rides his steed into battle with clear purpose."

Reflection

I doubted myself in the initial intuitive reading. I felt the card indicated a clear choice and decisive action. The expression of the rider is determined and seizing the moment. The expression of the horse, however, seemed uncertain. I felt this meant that the rider needed to be certain about their choice and use clear thinking before charging in. This interpretation feels better suited to the reverse positioning of the card--which may mean, you're rushing into a situation without thinking.

My intuitive read blended with Young's interpretation, seems to say that a decision as been made and the rider is acting on the situation. It might also mean that the rider knows what to do and should act on the information they have.

In both readings, the subject of the reading must think through their options, make a decision, and act decisively.

Learning Tarot: Page of Wands

Moon Phase

Waxing Crescent.
13% Illumination.

Wands

Element: Fire
Associations: Energy. Action. Ambition. Drive. Passion. Goals.

Court Card

Page: Youthful messenger. New beginnings. Potential. Growth. New perspective.

Intuitive Reading, Page of Wands

Description: A young male figure stands tall, examining the wand in hand. He wears regal yellow and red garments appropriate for a member of the court. On his head rests a white hat with a bright red feather at the fore of the hat. From his wand, five small leaf-bearing branches grow from the wand. They appear young and new.

The sky is cloudless and blue. Simple, barren mountains and land rise to meet the sky.

Intuitive Reading: The posture of the figure suggest both confidence and thoughtfulness. New growth, opportunity, has presented itself before him. This new opportunity appears promising, but the figure tempers his ambition to consider the costs demanded by the road ahead. He has not come into his position by rash and reckless action. He is driven, but his eyes gaze upon the road ahead and the long term actions he must commit to.

Was the Intuitive Reading Aligned with the Traditional

According to the Tarot Guidebook, Based on the tarot interpretations of Arthur Edward Waite, Modified, expanded, and edited by Phillip Young, PhD:

Meaning: "You have a lot of excitement, but you need to find some focus."

Symbolism: "A young man full of energy waits to be inspired and given direction. The salamander on his clothing represents passion, immortality, and the ability to withstand fire."

Reflection

I don't think I was too far from the traditional reading. Where I saw confidence and thoughtfulness, Young suggests a waiting for inspiration. This might be captured in my suggestion that the new opportunity (or something good) enters the picture. While the Page may be given to rash decisions and jumping into the action (Young), he is being asked to pause and consider the opportunity, or news, carefully. He must "find some focus" (Young).

There are parts of my interpretation that deviate from Young, but I believe the ideas are in harmony.

Your God Bore No Light

Your god bore no light.
No beauty beyond sight.
It was mass of Cancer,
and in its form—
found every answer.
It's insatiable rage
written on every page.
No page did love alight,
for your god—
bore no light.
